WHY PROTECTING NATURAL AREAS IS SO IMPORTANT

Protection of the worlds natural ecosystem should be at the top of every one's priority list. As a relatively new species to this planet it is our duty to treat nature with the respect it deserves, for its sake and our own. Forests, rivers, lakes, oceans and mountainous regions offer recreation, relaxation and escape from the hustle and bustle of the everyday. Aside from indulgence, natural areas provide for us the cleanliness of the air we breath, the fresh water that we drink and the tolerable temperatures and conditions that we live under.

Nature preserves provide some relief from the impact that industrialization and agricultural development have had on wild areas. However, the fractured nature of many of the preserves that exist push species living them towards a less diverse genetic code and the potential endangerment of the species. It is not the choice of one animal to decide the fate of another's strictly for convenience. By preserving natural areas around and with in urban centers, the impact of our growing cities can be lessened. Planting more trees along road ways, allotting more space for green areas with in cities that supply a diverse range of habitats and, staying conscious of the situation that our fellow creatures are facing can have a huge impact across the globe. On the agriculture side, practicing more sustainable farming techniques not only will help the environment but can me monetarily advantageous as well. If farmers rotated crops farm land would stay fertile and usable for a longer period time, practicing conservative tilling will maintain the natural structure and moisture of the soil so that watering can be less frequent and run off will not be as great, using manure from livestock for fertilizer is a viable and cost effective way to reduce the amount of mineral and pollutant build up in the soil that eventually ends up in our water.

  1. I like how you broke down the reasons why protection of natural areas is so important. Maybe split up the long paragraph to make it an easier read. It might also be nice to see a specific story here that speaks to or shows reason for efforts to preserva that area as well as the species affected.
